Parveen meaning
Parveen (پروین) is a Muslim girl's name of Persian origin, also used for boys in north India, usually as a spelling of Praveen.
The Pleiades; one of the twenty-eight stations of the moon
Parveen is the Persian name for the Pleiades, the small, bright cluster of stars in the constellation Taurus. Steingass defines parwīn as the Pleiades and as one of the twenty-eight stations of the moon, the star groups the moon passes through in the course of a month. The name is used for girls by Muslim families in India and Pakistan. Well-known bearers include the Pakistani poet Parveen Shakir, the Hindi film actress Parveen Babi and the classical singer Parveen Sultana. In north India boys are also sometimes named Parveen, but there it is usually a spelling of the Sanskrit name Praveen, 'skilful', a different word altogether.
