Falguni meaning
Falguni (फाल्गुनी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, फा, it is a Dhanu rashi name (Purva Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The lunar mansion Phalguni; the full moon in it
Falguni (फाल्गुनी) is Sanskrit phālgunī. Monier-Williams gives it as the lunar mansion Phalgunī and as the full-moon day of that asterism, the full moon of the month Phālguna in February or March, which is also the day of Holi. Phalgunī is a double nakṣatra, made up of Pūrvā (earlier) and Uttarā (later) Phalgunī, and in the Mahābhārata Arjuna says he was born under the Uttara Phalgunī stars, which is why he is called Phālguna. Baby-name lists link the name to the month of Phalguna, its spring season and its full moon, which matches the dictionary. In India the name is also spelt Phalguni, and is mostly given to girls.
