Dhara meaning
Dhara (धारा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, धा, it is a Dhanu rashi name (Purva Ashadha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A stream or current of water; a flow or shower
Also used to mean: earth
Dhara stands for two Sanskrit words that sound almost alike. Dhārā (धारा), the spelling we record, is "a stream or current of water", a gush or shower of rain, and also a continuous line or series; Monier-Williams uses it figuratively for the line of a family. A separate dhārā means the sharp edge of a blade. Dharā (धरा), with a short first vowel, means "bearer, supporter", that is, the earth, and is also one of the eight forms of Sarasvatī. Baby-name lists usually give "earth", sometimes "stream" or "flow", so the meaning depends on how the family writes the name. Both spellings are in use as girls' names, and in English they look identical.
