Manya meaning
Manya (मान्या) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, मा, it is a Simha rashi name (Magha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Worthy of respect or honour; venerable
Manya (मान्या) is the feminine of Sanskrit mānya, "to be respected or honoured", from the root man, "to think, to esteem". Monier-Williams gives respectable, worthy of honour and venerable, and also records Mānya as the name of a Vedic seer, Maitrāvaruṇi, credited with a hymn of the Ṛgveda. The same root gives māna, honour or pride, and mānanīya, "deserving respect", a word still used in formal Hindi address. Name lists give "respected" or "worthy of honour", which match the dictionary. The spelling Maanya marks the long first vowel; both spellings are pronounced the same. Outside India, Manya is also a Russian pet form of Maria, which is unrelated.
