Nipa meaning
Nipa (नीपा) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Gujarati and Bengali usage). By its first sound, नी, it is a Vrishchik rashi name (Anuradha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The kadamba tree and its flower
Also used to mean: water jar, protector, master
Nipa (नीपा) is a Sanskrit name with two possible sources. With a long ī, Monier-Williams gives nīpa as the kadamba tree, whose round fragrant flowers appear in Kālidāsa's Meghadūta, and nīpā as the name of a river. With a short i, nipa means a water jar, "protecting", or a lord or chief, and these are the meanings most name lists give. Gujarati and Bengali both spell the name with the long vowel, which fits the kadamba sense. The name is used mainly in Gujarat and in Bengal, where it is also spelt Neepa.
