Parvati meaning
Parvati (पार्वती) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, पा, it is a Kanya rashi name (Uttara Phalguni nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Of the mountains; Shiva's consort, daughter of Himavat
Also used to mean: daughter of the mountain
Parvati (पार्वती) is the feminine of Sanskrit pārvata, "belonging to or coming from the mountains", from parvata, a mountain. Monier-Williams gives Pārvatī as the name of Śiva's wife, the daughter of Himavat, king of the snowy mountains, which is why the name is usually explained as "daughter of the mountain". The same entry also lists a mountain stream and, in older lexicons, a name of Draupadī. In Hindu tradition Parvati wins Śiva through severe austerity, is the mother of Gaṇeśa and Skanda, and is also known as Umā, with Durgā and Kālī counted among her forms. Parvathi and Parvathy are spellings used in South India.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Parvati.
