Bakula meaning
Bakula (बकुला) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin (Gujarati and Marathi usage).
The bakula tree (Mimusops elengi) and its fragrant flower
Bakula (बकुला) comes from Sanskrit bakula, the tree known in English as Spanish cherry or bullet wood (Mimusops elengi), and from its small, strongly scented flowers. Monier-Williams records the poets' fancy that the bakula puts out blossoms when sprinkled with nectar from the mouths of lovely women, and also lists Bakula as a name of Shiva in the Mahābhārata. Name lists give it simply as "flower". As a girls' name Bakula is found mostly among Gujarati and Marathi women, and the shorter Bakul is also used.
