Ketaki meaning
Ketaki (केतकी) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, के, it is a Mithun rashi name (Punarvasu nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
The fragrant screw-pine, Pandanus odoratissimus
Ketaki (केतकी) is Sanskrit ketakī, which Monier-Williams gives as the same plant as ketaka, the tree Pandanus odoratissimus, known in English as the screw-pine. The ketaka is cited from the Mahābhārata, the Rāmāyaṇa and Kālidāsa's Meghadūta, and ketakī from the Gītagovinda and the Śiva Purāṇa, so the flower runs through classical Sanskrit poetry. The same plant, called kewda or kewra in modern India, is the source of the fragrance distilled from its male flowers for kewra water and traditional attar. Name lists describe Ketaki as a fragrant flower, true to the plant. Ketki is the usual modern Hindi and Marathi spelling of the same name.
