Jayamala meaning
Jayamala (जयमाला) is a Hindu girl's name of Sanskrit origin.
Garland of victory (jaya 'victory' + mālā 'garland')
Jayamala (जयमाला) joins jaya, which Monier-Williams gives as victory, conquest and triumph, to mālā, "garland". A garland of victory was the prize of a champion, and at a svayamvara the bride placed a garland on the man she chose; in North Indian weddings the exchange of garlands is still called the jaimala. The compound itself is not in the dictionary, so the meaning comes from its parts. In Maharashtra the name is remembered through Jaymala Shiledar, the singer-actress of Marathi musical theatre, who received the Padma Shri in 2013.
