Amarjeet meaning
Amarjeet (ਅਮਰਜੀਤ) is a Sikh and Hindu unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Amar (immortal, unshakeable) joined with jīt (victory)
Amarjeet (ਅਮਰਜੀਤ), also spelled Amarjit, joins two words. Amar comes from Sanskrit amara, "deathless, immortal", and the Mahan Kosh gives the same sense in Punjabi; jīt means "victory". Together they make "immortal victory". Both words are at home in Sikh scripture: ਅਮਰ appears in the Guru Granth Sahib for the undying (Ang 63), and ਜੀਤ for winning or victory (Ang 180). In the scripture ਅਮਰ can also mean "command", from Arabic amr, but the name uses the "immortal" sense. Name lists today give Amarjeet as "immortal victory" or "forever victorious", in line with its parts. Like many Sikh names it is used for both boys and girls, followed by Singh or Kaur, and it is also used in Punjabi Hindu families.
