Sandeep meaning
Sandeep (ਸੰਦੀਪ) is a Sikh and Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Punjabi usage).
From saṃ-dīp, to blaze up and glow; to kindle
Also used to mean: lighted lamp, one who lights up
Sandeep (ਸੰਦੀਪ) is a name shared by Sikh and Hindu families across India. It is usually explained from Sanskrit saṃ-dīp, which Monier-Williams gives as to blaze up, flame and glow, and in its causative form to kindle or set alight; the related noun saṃdīpana means kindling. Dīpa, the lamp, comes from the same root, so the name is read as a lamp that is fully alight. Name lists give "lighted lamp" or "one who lights up", in line with this. We could not find a noun saṃdīpa itself in Monier-Williams, so the name is best seen as a modern formation from these words. A well-known bearer is Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, awarded the Ashoka Chakra after the 2008 Mumbai attacks.
