Gurjot meaning
Gurjot (ਗੁਰਜੋਤ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin.
Light (jot) of the Guru
Gurjot (ਗੁਰਜੋਤ) is a modern compound of gur, the Guru, and jot, light. The Mahan Kosh explains gur as the Guru, the teacher who dispels the darkness of ignorance, and jot (ਜੋਤਿ), from Sanskrit jyotis, as light, the divine light within and God himself. Both words are basic to Sikh scripture: ਗੁਰ comes at the close of the Mool Mantar in ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ, "by the Guru's grace" (Ang 1), and ਜੋਤਿ appears on Ang 13. The Var of Balwand and Satta describes the Gurus as sharing one light and one way (Ang 966), which gives the pairing special weight for Sikhs. Name lists give Gurjot as "light of the Guru". It is used mostly for boys.
