Tegbir meaning
Tegbir (ਤੇਗਬੀਰ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin.
Teg (sword) joined with bīr (brave)
Tegbir (ਤੇਗਬੀਰ) joins two words used in Sikh names. Teg comes from Persian tegh, which Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha's Mahan Kosh glosses as a sword, and also as the temper of fine steel; the word occurs in the Guru Granth Sahib on Ang 145, and the Mahan Kosh also records the paired phrase deg teg, the cooking pot and the sword. Bīr means brave, as on Ang 203. Together they give "brave with the sword", the meaning on Punjabi name lists. The same word teg is in the name of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru, who was executed in Delhi in 1675. Tegbir itself is a modern compound given to boys.
