Hargobind meaning
Hargobind (ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin.
Hari and Gobind (Govinda), two names of God joined
Hargobind (ਹਰਗੋਬਿੰਦ) joins two names of God. Har is hari, and Gobind is the Punjabi form of Sanskrit Govinda, which the Mahan Kosh explains as Krishna, as Waheguru, and as the Creator who sustains the earth. The pair ਹਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ is used for God in the Guru Granth Sahib, for example on Ang 578. The name is honoured above all through Guru Hargobind (1595–1644), the sixth Sikh Guru and son of Guru Arjan, who wore two swords standing for spiritual and worldly authority. It remains a boys' name, sometimes spelled Hargovind.
