Harman (ਹਰਮਨ) is a modern Punjabi name made from har and man. Har is the form of hari used in names such as Harpreet and Harjot; the Mahan Kosh gives hari many senses, among them God the Creator. Man is the mind or inner self, which the Mahan Kosh also renders as the heart. Read this way, the name speaks of a mind or heart turned towards God. Name lists usually give it as "beloved of God" or "God's heart". "Beloved" is not a sense of either word, so that part is a modern reading. Harman is also the first part of longer names such as Harmanpreet and Harmanjot, carried for example by the India cricketer Harmanpreet Kaur.
