Ekam meaning
Ekam (ਏਕਮ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
First; unique, without equal; the first lunar day
Also used to mean: one, oneness
Ekam (ਏਕਮ) has three senses in the Mahan Kosh of Bhai Kahn Singh Nabha: the first lunar day of each fortnight, "unique, without equal", and simply "first". In the Guru Granth Sahib it opens the Thitī hymns on the lunar days, such as Guru Arjan's at Ang 296, and it appears in Guru Amar Das's hymn in Rāg Mājh at Ang 113. Baby-name lists usually give "one" or "oneness" and tie the name to the Sikh teaching that God is One. That is close to the sources but not identical: the dictionaries give "first" and "peerless" rather than "oneness". The name is short and is used for boys and girls alike.
