Sifat meaning
Sifat (ਸਿਫਤ) is a Sikh girl's name of Arabic origin (Punjabi usage).
Praise, commendation; also a quality or attribute
Also used to mean: God's praise, qualities
Sifat (ਸਿਫਤ) is the Arabic ṣifat, which Steingass's dictionary gives as description, quality and attribute. In Punjabi, and especially in Gurbani, it took on the sense of praise: the Mahan Kosh defines ਸਿਫਤਿ as praise and commendation, and as the praiseworthy one, the Creator. The Guru Granth Sahib uses it for the praise of God from the Japji onward (Ang 5), often in the phrase sifat salāh, the singing of praise to God. Sikh name lists give "God's praise", while general lists give "qualities". It is a girls' name in Sikh families.
