Satnam meaning
Satnam (ਸਤਿਨਾਮ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin, also used for girls.
The True Name; one whose Name is Truth (the Mool Mantar)
Satnam (ਸਤਿਨਾਮ) comes straight from the Mool Mantar, the opening statement of the Guru Granth Sahib: ਇਕ ਓਅੰਕਾਰ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ, one Creator, whose Name is Truth (Ang 1). The Mahan Kosh explains sat as the Supreme Being who is unchanging through past, present and future, and nām as name, so Satnam is "the True Name" or "one whose Name is Truth". Sikhs repeat it daily, and "Satnam Waheguru" is a common form of remembrance. As a given name it is mainly for boys. The basketball player Satnam Singh Bhamara was the first Indian-born player drafted into the NBA.
