Simrat meaning
Simrat (ਸਿਮਰਤ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin (from Sanskrit).
Remembrance, recollection; also the Smriti scriptures
Also used to mean: meditation
Simrat (ਸਿਮਰਤ) is a Punjabi form of Sanskrit smṛti, the word behind the Hindi name Smriti. The Mahan Kosh gives two senses: memory or remembrance, and the Smritis, the law books composed by the sages. In the Guru Granth Sahib the word appears in both senses; at Ang 334 it is read as contemplation. As a Sikh name Simrat is taken in the sense of remembrance, close to simran, and name lists give "remembrance" or "meditation". It is a girls' name, used mainly in Sikh families.
