Simran meaning
Simran (ਸਿਮਰਨ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin, also used for boys.
Remembrance; one-pointed recollection of the divine Name
Simran (ਸਿਮਰਨ) comes from Sanskrit smaraṇa, the act of remembering, which Monier-Williams also gives as mentally repeating the name of a god. The Mahan Kosh gives remembrance and memory, longing, and in Gurbani the remembrance of the beloved through his Name and qualities with a one-pointed mind, cross-referring it to nām abhyās, the practice of the Name. Simran is thus a central Sikh practice, and the phrase ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ, remembrance of the Lord, occurs on Ang 189 of the Guru Granth Sahib. Name lists give the same meaning, "remembrance" or "meditation". Simran is used mainly for girls but also for boys, in Sikh and Hindu families alike.
