Jasmeet meaning
Jasmeet (ਜਸਮੀਤ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Jas (praise, renown) joined with mīt (friend)
Jasmeet (ਜਸਮੀਤ) is a modern Punjabi compound of jas and mīt. Jas, from Sanskrit yaśas, means praise, honour or renown, and occurs in the Japji. Mīt is the Punjabi form of Sanskrit mitra, 'friend', and the Mahan Kosh gives it two senses: a friend or true companion, and the Creator, the Lord who does good to all beings, illustrated with lines from Guru Arjan's hymns. So the name can carry a devotional echo as well as the plain sense 'friend of praise', which name lists often give as 'glorious friend'. Both words appear in the Guru Granth Sahib, but the combined name does not. Jasmeet is given to boys and girls alike, with Singh or Kaur.
