Gagandeep meaning
Gagandeep (ਗਗਨਦੀਪ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Gagan (sky) joined with dīp (lamp): lamp of the sky
Also used to mean: light of the sky
Gagandeep (ਗਗਨਦੀਪ) joins gagan, the sky, with dīp, a lamp, so it reads "lamp of the sky". The Mahan Kosh gives gagan as the sky or firmament and adds heaven, empty space and, figuratively, the all-pervading Creator; dīp comes from a Sanskrit root meaning to shine. The two words meet in one of the best-known passages of Sikh scripture, Guru Nanak's Aarti on Ang 13 of the Guru Granth Sahib, which pictures the sky as the platter of worship with the sun and moon as its lamps. Name lists give "lamp of the sky" or "light of the sky", in line with these parts. The name is given to both boys and girls; the virologist Gagandeep Kang, elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 2019, is a well-known bearer.
