Gursharan meaning
Gursharan (ਗੁਰਸ਼ਰਨ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Refuge in the Guru
Also used to mean: shelter of the Guru
Gursharan (ਗੁਰਸ਼ਰਨ) joins gur with sharaṇ, refuge. The Mahan Kosh, under ਸਰਣ, gives shelter, refuge and protection, from Sanskrit śaraṇa, and the phrase gur saraṇi, "in the Guru's refuge", appears on Ang 39 of the Guru Granth Sahib, where Guru Amar Das says the mind becomes pure there. Sikh name lists give "one who takes shelter in the Guru". The name is used for men and women; Gursharan Kaur, wife of the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, is a well-known bearer.
