Gurveer meaning
Gurveer (ਗੁਰਵੀਰ) is a Sikh boy's name of Punjabi origin.
The Guru's brave one; vīr also means brother
Gurveer (ਗੁਰਵੀਰ) joins gur, the Guru, with vīr, from Sanskrit vīra. The Mahan Kosh gives vīr a wide range of senses: a brave man or warrior, a brother and a friend, and also a husband or son. In the Guru Granth Sahib the form bīr is used for "mighty, brave", for example at Ang 203, and for "brother", as at Ang 862. So Gurveer can be read as "the Guru's brave one" or "the Guru's brother", and baby-name lists usually choose the first, as "warrior of the Guru". In everyday Punjabi vīr is also the affectionate word for a brother. The full name is a modern compound, mostly given to boys, and is also spelt Gurvir.
