Gurnoor meaning
Gurnoor (ਗੁਰਨੂਰ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Light (nūr) of the Guru
Gurnoor (ਗੁਰਨੂਰ) joins gur, the Guru, with nūr, an Arabic word for light. The Mahan Kosh gives nūr as brightness and light, splendour, the Creator's wondrous work, and a name of the Creator as light embodied. The word occurs in the Guru Granth Sahib, most famously in Kabir's verse at Ang 1349, which says the whole world came forth from one light (ek nūr). The full name is a modern compound meaning "light of the Guru" or "the Guru's radiance", and baby-name lists render it the same way. Like Harnoor, it pairs an Indian word with an Arabic one, as the Guru Granth Sahib itself often does. Gurnoor is used for both girls and boys.
