Sukhmani meaning
Sukhmani (ਸੁਖਮਨੀ) is a Sikh girl's name of Punjabi origin.
Jewel of spiritual bliss; Guru Arjan's Sukhmani hymn
Also used to mean: peace of mind, jewel of peace
Sukhmani (ਸੁਖਮਨੀ) is best known as the title of Guru Arjan's Sukhmani Sahib, often called the Psalm of Peace. Composed around 1602–03 beside the Ramsar pool in Amritsar, it is set in Raag Gauri and runs to 24 ashtpadis, each opened by a salok, from Ang 262 to Ang 296 of the Guru Granth Sahib. Many Sikhs recite it as part of their daily prayers. The Mahan Kosh explains the word as a jewel, mani, that gives spiritual bliss, sukh, while the Encyclopaedia of Sikhism renders it "consoler of the mind". Punjabi name lists give it as "peace of mind" or "jewel of peace", in line with these readings. It is a girl's name in Sikh families.
