Sukhdeep meaning
Sukhdeep (ਸੁਖਦੀਪ) is a Sikh unisex name of Punjabi origin, used for both girls and boys.
Sukh (happiness, peace) joined with dīp (lamp)
Also used to mean: lamp of peace, light of happiness
Sukhdeep (ਸੁਖਦੀਪ) joins sukh and dīp. Sukh is happiness, comfort and ease, and the Mahan Kosh adds bliss and joy; the word appears on the first page of the Guru Granth Sahib, where the Japji says that pain and pleasure, dukh and sukh, come by the divine order (Ang 1). Dīp, from Sanskrit dīpa, is a lamp, from a root meaning to shine. Together the parts give "lamp of happiness" or "lamp of peace", and name lists use both. Sukh is a first element in Sikh names, as in Sukhmani and Sukhman, and Sukhdeep is given to boys and girls alike, with Singh or Kaur.
