Govind meaning
Govind (गोविंद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, गो, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Chief herdsman; a name of Krishna or Vishnu
Govind (गोविंद) is Sanskrit govinda, one of the best-loved names of Kṛṣṇa. Monier-Williams gives it as a name of Kṛṣṇa or Viṣṇu in the Mahābhārata, the Harivaṃśa, the Bhagavad Gītā and the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. For its origin the dictionary links it with go-vid, built from go, "cow", and the root vid, "to find" or "to know", and also suggests a possible Prakrit origin, gov-inda for gopendra, "chief herdsman", a sense it lists in its own right. In Sikh usage the same word, usually written Gobind, is a name for God, and it is the name of the tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh, who was born Gobind Rai in Patna in 1666. Baby-name lists give "cowherd" or "Lord Krishna", matching the dictionary.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Krishna.
