Debjit meaning
Debjit (देवजित) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Bengali usage). By its first sound, दे, it is a Meen rashi name (Revati nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Compound of deva, 'god', and jit, 'conquering, winning'
Also used to mean: conqueror of gods, one who has won over the gods
Debjit (देवजित) is the Bengali way of saying Sanskrit Devajit. It joins deva, "divine, a god", with jit, which Monier-Williams gives as "winning, acquiring, conquering" at the end of a compound. Name lists explain it as "conqueror of the gods" or "one who has won the gods over", that is, one who has earned divine favour. In Bengali the Sanskrit v is spoken as b, which is why the name is written Debjit, Debojit or Debajit. It is used mostly by Hindu families in West Bengal, Assam and Tripura.
