Sambit meaning

Sambit (संवित) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Odia and Bengali usage).

Consciousness, intellect, knowledge, understanding; agreement

Sambit (संवित) is the Odia and Bengali form of Sanskrit saṃvit, from the verb saṃ-vid, "to know together, to be aware". Monier-Williams gives it as consciousness, intellect, knowledge and understanding, as perception or feeling, and also as a mutual understanding or agreement. The Samsad Bengali dictionary gives sambit simply as "consciousness", used in phrases for fainting and coming round, and Odia uses the word the same way. Odia and Bengali say the Sanskrit v as b, hence Sambit for Samvit. The politician Sambit Patra is a well-known bearer.
