Samudra meaning
Samudra (समुद्र) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
The ocean, a 'gathering together of waters'
Samudra (समुद्र) is the everyday Sanskrit and Hindi word for the ocean, which Monier-Williams explains as a gathering together of waters. In Hindu story the gods and demons churned the cosmic ocean, samudra manthan, to win the nectar of immortality. Name lists give "ocean", matching the dictionary, and sometimes link the name with Varuṇa, lord of the waters. The fourth-century Gupta emperor Samudragupta is its most famous bearer.
