Samar meaning
Samar (समर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Battle, war, conflict; also a coming together, meeting
Samar (समर) comes from Sanskrit samara, formed from sam-, "together", and the verb ṛ, "to go". Its oldest sense, in the Rig Veda and Atharva Veda, is a coming together, meeting or confluence. Later, as Monier-Williams records, it came to mean a hostile encounter: conflict, struggle, war or battle, the sense found in the Mahābhārata. Name lists give Samar as "war" or "battle", which matches the dictionary. It also appears in compound names such as Samarjit and Samarendra. Muslim families use a separate Arabic name Samar, which is a different word.
