Vishnuvardhan meaning
Vishnuvardhan (विष्णुवर्धन) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Name of various kings; viṣṇu + vardhana, 'one who increases'
Also used to mean: one who increases the glory of Vishnu
Vishnuvardhan (विष्णुवर्धन) joins the name of Vishnu with vardhana, which Monier-Williams gives as increasing, strengthening and granting prosperity. Monier-Williams records viṣṇuvardhana as the name of several kings known from inscriptions, among them Kubja Vishnuvardhana, founder of the Eastern Chalukya line. The best known is the twelfth-century Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana of Karnataka, who is said to have taken the name after turning to Vaishnavism under the teacher Rāmānuja and who built the temples at Belur. Name lists give the name as "one who increases the glory of Vishnu", which fits its parts. A well-known bearer was the Kannada film star Vishnuvardhan.
