Vyas meaning
Vyas (व्यास) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin.
Division; detailed account; the sage Vyasa, compiler of the Vedas
Also used to mean: arranger
Vyas (व्यास) is the Sanskrit vyāsa, from vi-as, "to throw apart, to divide". Monier-Williams gives the ordinary senses as division and separation, extension and a detailed account, and the width or diameter of a circle. Above all it is the name of the sage Veda-vyāsa, "arranger of the Veda", whom tradition regards as the compiler of the Vedas and the author of the Mahābhārata and the Purāṇas. He was the son of Parāśara and Satyavatī, and is also called Kṛṣṇa Dvaipāyana. Guru Purnima is kept as Vyasa Purnima in his honour. Name lists give the name as "compiler" or link it to the sage, matching the dictionary.
