Devank (देवांक) is a modern name made of deva, "god", and aṅka. Monier-Williams gives aṅka as a hook or curve, the lap or the bend of the arm, and a mark, sign or numeral. Read that way, Devank is "the mark of God" or "one held in God's lap". Indian name lists usually give it as "part of God", treating -ank like the -ang of Devang or the -ansh of Devansh. We could not find that sense for aṅka in the dictionaries, so it appears to be a modern meaning that has grown up around the name. The compound itself is not in the classical dictionaries.
