Veer meaning
Veer (वीर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, वी, it is a Vrishabh rashi name (Rohini nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A man; a hero, a brave or eminent man
Veer (वीर) is Sanskrit vīra, "a man", and above all "a brave or eminent man, a hero, a chief", used from the Ṛgveda onward and applied even to gods such as Indra and Viṣṇu. Monier-Williams also gives the adjective sense heroic, powerful and excellent, and lists vīra as heroism, one of the eight rasas, or moods, of classical drama. MW notes that the word is related to Latin vir, "man", and to the old English wer that survives in werewolf. Indian name lists give Veer as brave or warrior, which matches the dictionary. It is a short, strong boy's name used across India, and it forms longer names such as Veerendra, "chief of heroes".
