Hemant meaning
Hemant (हेमंत) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, हे, it is a Kark rashi name (Pushya nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Winter, the cold season
Hemant (हेमंत) is Sanskrit hemanta, "winter, the cold season", a word found as early as the Ṛgveda. Monier-Williams defines it as the two months Agrahāyaṇa and Pauṣa, roughly mid-November to mid-January. It is one of the six ṛtus, the seasons of the traditional Indian year, coming after autumn and before the late winter. Baby-name lists give "winter" or "early winter", matching the dictionary. Some also gloss it as "golden" by linking it with hema, "gold"; the dictionary does not make that connection. In south India the name is often spelt Hemanth.
