Gopichand meaning
Gopichand (गोपीचंद) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin (Hindi and Telugu usage). By its first sound, गो, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
Moon of the gopis (from gopī and candra, moon)
Also used to mean: Lord Krishna
Gopichand (गोपीचंद) joins gopī and chand, the Hindi form of Sanskrit candra. Monier-Williams gives gopī as a cowherdess, especially the cowherd women of Vrindavan who were Krishna's companions, and candra as shining and as the moon. Together the name means "moon of the gopis", a picture of Krishna, and name lists give it that way. The compound is not in the classical dictionaries. The name is used in North India and in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where a well-known bearer is the badminton champion Pullela Gopichand, winner of the All England title in 2001 and later India's chief national coach.
