Gopeshwar meaning
Gopeshwar (गोपेश्वर) is a Hindu boy's name of Sanskrit origin. By its first sound, गो, it is a Kumbh rashi name (Shatabhisha nakshatra) in the North Indian table.
A form of Shiva; also a man's name
Also used to mean: lord of cowherds, Lord Shiva
Gopeshwar (गोपेश्वर) joins Sanskrit gopa, "cowherd", and īśvara, "lord". Its literal sense, "lord of the cowherds", sounds like a Krishna name, but Monier-Williams records gopeśvara as a form of Śiva, and as the name of a man. Name lists give it as "lord of cowherds" or Shiva. Shiva is worshipped as Gopeshwar Mahadev in Vrindavan, linking him to Krishna's cowherd world, and Gopeshwar is also the headquarters town of Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. The name is traditional, and Gopeswar is the usual Bengali and Odia spelling.
In Hindu tradition this is a name of Shiva.
