Sameer meaning
Sameer (سمیر) is a Muslim and Hindu boy's name of Arabic origin.
A companion in conversation by night
Also used to mean: companion in evening talk, breeze
Sameer (سمیر) is the Arabic samīr, which Lane equates with musāmir, a partner in conversation by night. The verb samara means "he held a conversation by night", from the root s-m-r, and the participle sāmir occurs in the Quran at 23:67, of people passing the night in idle talk against the revelation. As a name, samīr means a good companion for talk after dark, and Muslim name lists give it as "companion in evening talk". In India many lists also give "breeze". That belongs to a separate Sanskrit word, samīra, which Monier-Williams glosses as air, breeze or wind, and also the god of wind. The two names sound alike, and Sameer is used by both Muslim and Hindu families.
