Salman meaning
Salman (سلمان) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
From s-l-m: salima, 'he was safe, secure, free from evil'
Also used to mean: peaceful
Salman (سلمان) is built on the Arabic root s-l-m, for which Lane gives salima, "he was, or became, safe, secure, or free from evils". The same root gives salām, "peace", which occurs in the Quran at 36:58, and islām itself. Lane does not gloss the name, so its meaning is the root sense. Name lists today give Salman as "safe" or "peaceful", both of which follow the root. Lane does record the idiom huwa salmānu baytihi, "he is the special friend of that household", which goes back to a saying of the Prophet about Salmān al-Fārisī. Salmān the Persian, a convert who according to tradition suggested the defensive trench around Medina in 627, is the name's great early bearer.
