Sohrab meaning
Sohrab (سہراب) is a Muslim boy's name of Persian origin.
Suhrāb, the son of the hero Rustam in Persian legend
Also used to mean: illustrious, shining, red water
Sohrab (سہراب) is a Persian name made famous by the Shahnameh, Firdausi's epic of the kings of Iran, in which Sohrab is the son of the hero Rustam and the princess Tahmina; father and son meet in battle without knowing each other, and Rustam kills him. Steingass enters suhrāb as the son of Rustam, and under surkhāb, literally "red water", records that form too as a name for him, the likely source of the "red water" gloss on name sites. Lists also give "illustrious", for which we found no dictionary support. Muslim and Parsi families in India both use it.
