Zahid meaning
Zahid (زاہد) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.
Abstinent; an ascetic who shuns worldly pleasures for God's service
Also used to mean: pious, devout
Zahid (زاہد) is the Arabic zāhid, from zahida, "to abstain, to have no desire for". Lane's lexicon defines it as abstaining or not desiring, and particularly as one who turns away from worldly pleasures and gives himself to the service of God, a devotee; zuhd, from the same root, is the ascetic ideal of the early Sufis. In the Quran the plural describes the men who sold Yusuf cheaply because they set little value on him (12:20). Name lists give "ascetic" and "pious".
