Amal meaning
Amal (امل) is a Muslim and international unisex name of Arabic origin, used for both girls and boys.
Hope, expectation
Amal (امل) is the Arabic amal, "hope". Lane's Arabic-English Lexicon glosses it as hope or expectation, a near synonym of rajāʾ. The name is given mostly to girls, and sometimes to boys, across the Arabic-speaking and wider Muslim world. It should not be confused with ʿamal (عمل), "work, deed", which is written with a different first letter. Indian families also know a second, unrelated Amal: a Hindu boys' name from Sanskrit amala, which Monier-Williams glosses as "spotless, stainless, clean, pure, shining". The two names sound alike but come from different languages, so it is worth knowing which one a family means. In Arabic the stress falls on the first syllable, with both vowels short.
