Hafiz meaning
Hafiz (حافظ) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (Urdu and Persian usage).
A keeper, guardian or protector; one who knows the Quran by heart
Hafiz (حافظ) is Arabic ḥāfiẓ, from the root ḥ-f-ẓ, "to keep, guard, memorise". Lane's lexicon defines it as one who keeps or protects something, a guardian, one who keeps a secret or an oath, and one who has learned the whole Quran by heart. That last sense made Hafiz a title of honour across the Muslim world, and it was the pen name of the 14th-century Persian poet Hafiz of Shiraz. The Quran says "God is the best guardian" (12:64). Name lists give "guardian" or "protector", which matches the dictionary.
