Jamshed meaning
Jamshed (جمشید) is a Muslim boy's name of Persian origin (Urdu usage).
Jamshed, legendary king of ancient Persia; the name means 'radiant Jam'
Also used to mean: shining
Jamshed (جمشید) is the name of the most famous king of Persian legend, the ruler who in the Shahnameh brings civilisation and owns a cup in which he can see the whole world. Steingass's Persian dictionary records Jamshed as that king. The name goes back to Avestan Yima xšaēta, "radiant Yima"; the second part, meaning bright or shining, is the same element found in khurshīd, "the sun". That is why name lists give "shining" or "radiant". In India the name is used by Muslim families and, in the form Jamshed or Jamsetji, by Parsis.
