Zaid meaning

Zaid (زید) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin.

Increase, growth; a verbal noun of zāda, 'it increased'

Zaid (زید) is the Arabic zayd, which Lane gives as a verbal noun of zāda, "it increased, augmented or grew", from the root z-y-d. Name lists today give Zaid as "growth" or "abundance", in line with the dictionary. Zayd is the only one of the Prophet's companions named in the Quran, at 33:37, where tradition identifies him as Zayd ibn Ḥāritha, the freed slave whom the Prophet adopted as a son. He was killed leading the Muslim force at the Battle of Muʾta in 629. Another famous bearer, Zayd ibn Thābit, served as the Prophet's scribe and is reported to have gathered the written Quran for the early caliphs, the collection on which the standard text was based.
