Khurshid (خورشید) is a Muslim boy's name of Persian origin.
The sun
Khurshid (خورشید) is the Persian word for the sun. Platts's Urdu dictionary gives khwurshed (also khwurshaid) simply as "the sun", the same as the shorter khwur, and lists khurshīd-rū, "with a face as bright as the sun". Steingass's Persian dictionary records a cluster of similar compounds for things radiant or sun-faced. The word is common in Urdu and Persian poetry, and as a name it has long been used by Muslim families in North India and Pakistan, mostly for boys and sometimes for girls. Khursheed and Khurshed are other spellings.
