Younus meaning
Younus (یونس) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic origin (from Hebrew).
The prophet Jonah; Hebrew Yonah, 'dove'
Younus (یونس), also spelled Yunus or Younis, is the Quranic form of the name of the prophet Jonah. The Quran counts him among the messengers (37:139), tells how he was swallowed by a great fish after leaving his people, and names its tenth surah after him; it also calls him Dhū al-Nūn, "the one of the fish". The name goes back to Hebrew Yonah, which Strong's Concordance explains as the ordinary word for a dove. Name lists give Younus as the prophet's name or as "dove", in line with the Hebrew. The biblical Book of Jonah tells a closely related story, and Christian families use the form Jonah.
