Hashmat meaning
Hashmat (حشمت) is a Muslim boy's name of Arabic via Persian origin (Urdu usage).
Retinue, attendants; pomp, magnificence, dignity
Also used to mean: glory
Hashmat (حشمت) is a word Urdu took from Persian, built on the Arabic root ḥ-sh-m. Steingass's Persian dictionary gives ḥashamat as a great man's servants and retinue, and from that, pomp, state and magnificence, the dignity of someone with followers. In Arabic itself the related ḥishma meant something different: Lane's lexicon gives anger, and shame or bashfulness. Name lists in India give "dignity", "glory" or "greatness", which follows the Persian and Urdu sense. Hashmat is used as a name by Muslim families in north India, also in the compound Hashmatullah.
